Truly nothing prepares you for the size and scale of the Savannah Way. Built the era of WW2 as a major inferstructure project in responce to the Japanese Bombing and attack of Darwin. This road is long and so sparse you can almost make out the curvature of the earth. There is nothing in either direction, no matter how fast your car goes, you feel almost like you are moving nowhere. The only clue being the wind racing around the car, and the noise of the engine. After a days driving, I wonder how far I have come.
