Desert Tracks

Getting about in the NT does come with its hazards and one of the most prolific is the roads. Crossing back past the Simpson Desert the roads traverse red sand dunes, and you have to fit a 6m pole with a red flag to the front of the car. Otherwise, you could have a head-on crash with someone coming the other way.

The sand is very fine and it gets in just about everywhere. The back door of the landrover, in particular, seemed to let significant amounts of red dust today. Thankfully all the camera equipment is stored away well.

Rule of thumb is to go slow, and keep your eyes on the road. Things change quickly and you need to be prepared to stop, change your wheel direction, and also keep an eye out for wildlife. Today I found camel tracks across the road, but did not see any,...
