Thorney Devil - Moloch horridus

The Australian Thorney Devil is a rather peaceful lizard despite its name.

Their diet mainly consists of Ants and otherwise small bugs and anything it can fit into its mouth. Even though the Simpson Desert and its endless bounds of red sand look lifeless. There is, in fact, millions of insects and plenty of lizards like this to eat them, and take advantage of the food source.

The photo looks a bit odd. However, when you consider the lizard is only 6cm long, everything makes much more sense. Sometimes even I forget that the wildlife out here is often very small. Every subject becomes hard to photograph when they are small and quick.
