The bougainvillaea is a common plant in Australia however it has fallen out of popularity is recent years. Growing up I can remember ours was always overgrown and we had to trim it back many times because the people trying to use the footpath would complain about it. They have quite prominent thorns and will draw blood if you were not careful. However, so does a rose bush. These plants always produced plenty of bright and colourful flowers from pure white to deep purples and reds; depending on the species you have. They are one of my favourites, and they always put on a show. I was lucky to walk past a few today to take some interesting botanical pictures.
