A very common sight across Australia is the Magpie. Often these birds strike fear in the hearts of Australian children, as during breeding season they go mental and swoop anything within 500m from their nest. Often the breeding season is announced on National television warning Australia to keep a watchful eye on the sky above. Cyclist are often the first to come under fire from the birds, and walking to school as a kid can take an interesting turn when you are dodging the swooping magpie. In their own way, they are a cultural icon of Australia.
