Dragon Week 2018 - Varanus varius Part 2

As soon as one commits to a themed week there is the challenge of not getting distracted. In this case, a huge lace monitor came forth from a rocky outcrop and taking a few photographs were irresistible.

Lace monitors are often referred to as a 'goanna' in Australia. This large lizard was approximately 1.6m long with dangerous looking clas to match.

Today's photograph displays a tangle of fallen trees, one with a bright orange birch fungus, among the tall native grasses in the woodlands. The goanna turned out in a very detailed way. Revealing the complexity of the colouration on his scales and a curious eye almost looking back at the camera.
