Glossy Ibis - Plegadis falcinellus

Found wandering the parklands and suburbs in Northern Queensland is the glossy ibis.

Much like the white ibis, they will scavenge for food given the chance but they prefer to eat more natural alternatives. Much like the people of the Townsville region they are quite fit and healthy; in comparison, the Sydneysiders would prefer easy and unhealthy fast food.

The glossy ibis gets it's name from the brown feathers it has, that produces an iridescent shine in the open sunlight. In contrast to the metal fencing behind it looks very interesting. I could imagen the colour helps the bird camouflage into the forest better than the white coat.
