Emerald Dove - Chalcophaps indica

Also known as the green-winged pigeon, this bird is very common across south-east Asia.

There are about 5 sub-species across; India, Christmas Island, Indonesia, and PNG. In Australia, these birds are often seen with white caps on their mantles, and a grey to light grey head. Variations have rifling through their green wings and breast, others with a disjunct grey to white cap on their head. Most have a distinctive orange beak.

Today's bird is a very healthy example of a mature adult. The photograph could have been sharper around the head, but the photo did turn out well in comparison to others in the dense undergrowth of the tropical forest.
