Black Hawk/Kite

Still pursuing the opportunities to catch one of these birds off guard. As a result, I was able to photograph one at close range today. Oddly enough the new 500mm and 600mm lens arrived later today. Over the next few days, I will be trying to catch a few more of these big hawks at close range. The bird flying next to the trees does make for an exiting photograph though. Today's photo is an improvement on weeks of efforts trying to get to know these birds better. I hope that with some newer equipment the dusty blue backgrounds will fade, and the definition of the hawk's feathers will start to show more clearly.

Kata-juta National Park

Looking out from the distance is the Kata-Juta National Park. The full story on this photograph includes an executive decision that had to be made on this one. After calculating the diesel usage ratio in the Landrover, I did not think that it would make it there, and then back, further to Alice Springs in one go. Therefore this will be left for another visit maybe later in the year when the temperature is lower. From a distance however it looks amazingly surreal. Up close I don't doubt for a second that it is huge up close. In the forefront, the bizarre trees that dot the landscape. Making for the last photograph before I return home.
