Iguana - Iguanidae

Today's picture is of an American Green Iguana. The reason being that in Australia and around the world they are a popular pet. Originating from the tropical region of the Americas, that include the Carribean and Equador.

In the right conditions, these green dragon-like creatures are capable to grow up to 2m in size. However most pats only grow as large as 1.5 from head to tail. Today's subject was chosen to be photographed in controlled conditions with a black background to highlight the amazing colour. Although mostly green the iguana has many textural features that were very hard to capture, including the opal-like scales on the chin.
